Excellent Day Trip Adventures On The Sunshine Coast

Pender Harbour & Skookmchuck- Hike & Paddle

This has to be one of our favourite trips on the Coast. Combine a beautiful hike, great scenery, excellent kayaking, a delicious meal and you have the recipe for the perfect day trip.

The Rapids at Skookumchuk Narrows are famous throughout the world for their turbulent waters. On a 3 metre tide, 200 billion gallons of water flow through the narrows connecting Sechelt and Jervis Inlet. This creates incredible standing waves that white-water kayakers love to surf on.

This park has a fairly flat and easy 4 km (approx 1 hour) hiking/walking trail leading from the parking lot at Egmont to the prime viewing area for the tidal phenomenon at Roland Point.

For the best viewing times- see the following tidal predictions.

After your trip to Skookumchuck- drive south on Hwy 101 to Madeira Park. Head to the Government Dock and boat ramp and you’ll find our  our Pender Harbour kayaking / SUP rental location right next door.

Numerous food options are near by- including the best burgers on the Sunshine Coast.

Known as the “Venice of the North”, Pender Harbour is an ideal location for kayaking. The coves and passages will provide you with hours of exploring. And best of all, while other areas on the Sunshine Coast can be to windy to paddle- Pender Harbour is always protected. We have boats for all skill levels.

After your paddling adventure, drop by for a quick dip in one of the nearby lakes.
